What is in a Name?
Have you ever researched your name? Or, have you researched your family name? Names can be funny in their origins, or practical or based on some new technology of their day. Take for instance the invention of the English longbow. It changed the history of warfare and the political geography of Europe in the 11th century. Look at some of the names that evolved from that technology: Archer, Bowman, Stringer, Fletcher, Knox, Shafter, Pointer, to name a few, but you get the idea. Can you imagine what would happen if technology of the 21st century was used for the same purpose? You would have family names of Blog, Tweet, Chat, Facebook or Facetime, or maybe Apple, Dos, Unix, or Pinterest. Well, maybe not. Continue reading
